Information On Obesity And How To Triumph Over It!
Reported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 97 million adults over the age of 20 were obese, and this doesn’t even count for children! How do you know if you are medically overweight or obese? Doctors use a formula that takes both height and weight into consideration to come up with a standardized measurement known as body mass index, or BMI. The BMI is a reliable indirect way of measuring total body fat content. Here is a little calculator you can do by hand to figure out your BMI:
divide your weight by pounds by your height in inches squared multiple the result by 703
The BMI for people at a healthy weight usually falls between 18.5 and 24.9
A BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered over weight (which is not the same as obese)
A BMI over 30 is considered obese. Well over 30% of Americans fall into this category and the increase of health problems is dramatic
These risks and problems can include such things as high blood pressure, Type II Diabetes, heart disease, and breast, colon, and prostate cancer. Also, obesity has been linked to mental health conditions such as season affect disorder (SAD) or feelings of shame and low self-esteem. Health experts say that even losing 10 to 15 percent of your body weight can dramatically decrease the risk of developing these serious conditions.
Here are a few causes of obesity and becoming over weight:
Ltd., physical exercise
Poor nutrition
Genetics
Hormones
Eating disorders such as binging and purging
Alcoholism
Stress
Eating a healthy diet with the right foods, limiting how much food you eat, and adding regular exercise to your daily routine can help you gain control and maintain a healthy weight. Remember proper portion control is a huge factor in this. Often, losing weight, even on a rapid weight loss program is something we try and fit into our otherwise busy weekly routines although it should really be considered much more important. Weight loss plans should be successful for whoever tries them but it is often the determination level of people that lets them down; below are a few things to think about when you start your weight loss plan. There are a number of things that can affect your weight loss; just some of these examples are mentioned in the list below:

One thing is for sure, the effects that weight brings are more than just skin deep. Whilst the number of physical and mental effects on an overweight person is great, it is amazing how these can be turned around when a person starts to lose weight. Is it surprising that rapid weight loss programs are so popular where there is so much to be gained; anyone contemplating this type of program needs to start eating a healthy diet as well as taking part in daily physical activity. Your chosen diet plan must be fairly flexible so it will suit your tastes but this should not be relied upon to do all the work for you; exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming etc. should be part of this regime.
Not all rapid weight loss plans will work with everyone and those that do work will produce different results for everyone that uses them; we are all unique and cannot expect to lose weight at the same rate. If you find that your exercise regime and diet aren’t providing the weight loss fast enough you may need to adjust your regime accordingly. Each person has a unique metabolism and when a particular program is not proving successful, it does not mean that success cannot be found with another diet plan.
You would be wise to choose an exercise method that suits your physical abilities so if all you are able to do is walk then that is fine; walking is an excellent exercise and it won’t hurt if there is a little muscle built up in the process because it burns calories faster. Drinking water regularly throughout the day is very important; someone on a rapid weight loss program should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day which will replace lost fluids and help get rid of bad toxins at the same time. Foods that have been fried, especially deep fried should be cut out of the diet altogether as they contain too much fat that is harmful to the system.
Grilled food is better as the fat is not retained in the food or if it is, very little so it will be much healthier for you. Some people believe you should give up eating carbohydrates but without them in your diet you will not have any energy to exercise and by definition lose weight. By sticking to this type of plan you can expect to lose around a pound in weight per day but bear in mind that once you stop, the weight will go back on again.
